Free practice sample
Fifteen original CAPM practice questions, unlocked with no signup and instant scoring. The sample draws proportionally across all four domains of the exam content outline in force since July 2023 — Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts, Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies, Agile Frameworks and Methodologies, and Business Analysis Frameworks — so the mix you see here reflects the shape of the current exam rather than a single topic slice.
CAPM rewards breadth of method more than depth in any one of them. The questions that catch people out are the ones that describe a situation and ask which approach fits: a requirement that is still changing weekly, a deliverable with a hard regulatory date, a stakeholder who needs the business case rather than the schedule. Answer those with a predictive reflex and you lose points to candidates who recognised an adaptive or business-analysis context. There is also a genuinely technical seam in Domain 2 — critical path, float, and the earned-value family are calculation items, not vocabulary. Every explanation here names the winning answer and the near-miss it beats, so a review pass teaches the distinction rather than a letter to memorise.
Outline changed. The current CAPM took effect in July 2023. It replaced the older PMBOK-6-heavy process-group orientation with the four-domain structure below, mirroring the direction PMI took with the PMBOK Guide 7th Edition. The exam is now genuinely multi-method — predictive, agile, and business analysis are all first-class content — so material written for the pre-2023 CAPM is thin in exactly the places the exam grew. This sample and the weights below are written to the current outline.
Frequently asked questions about CAPM
How many questions are on the actual CAPM exam?
150 questions in a 180-minute window, delivered through Pearson VUE at a test centre or online proctored. That works out to roughly 72 seconds per item, which is comfortable for the vocabulary and concept questions in Domain 1 and tight for the earned-value and critical-path calculations in Domain 2 — so the pacing risk is concentrated, not spread evenly. Confirm current logistics on pmi.org when you book, since PMI sets the format and may change it.
What score do I need to pass CAPM?
PMI does not publish a pass mark for CAPM. Results are reported against a calibrated threshold rather than a raw percentage, so there is no official “you need X%” figure, and a raw score you calculate yourself will not map linearly onto PMI’s scale. The community proxy sits at about 65% raw, and Certifym sets the practice pass mark at 65% for the same reason — it is an honest stand-in for an undisclosed threshold. Clear it consistently across full sets and you have headroom on the day rather than a coin flip.
Which domains should I spend the most time on?
Domain 1, Fundamentals and Core Concepts, is the heaviest by a wide margin at 36% — life cycles, plan components, roles, and problem-solving tools, where points are cheap for a prepared candidate. Business Analysis Frameworks is second at 27% and is where under-prepared candidates lose most, because it is the biggest change from the pre-2023 exam. Agile is 20%. Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies is the lightest at 17%, but it is the most technical: skimping there means walking into the calculation items cold. Weight your study time to 36/27/20/17 rather than to what feels like project management.
Am I eligible to sit the CAPM exam?
Eligibility is friendlier than PMP’s: a secondary degree — a high school diploma or the equivalent — plus 23 contact hours of project management education. No leadership experience is required. PMI’s own free “Project Management Basics” course on their learning platform satisfies the 23 hours and maps directly to the exam outline, which is how a great many candidates enter. Check the current criteria on pmi.org before you pay for an application.
What changed in the July 2023 outline?
The current CAPM replaced a process-group orientation built around PMBOK Guide 6th Edition with a four-domain structure that mirrors the direction PMI took in the 7th Edition. The practical consequence is that predictive, agile, and business analysis are now all first-class exam content rather than one main method with two footnotes, and Business Analysis Frameworks alone carries 27% of your score. If your study material assumes a Gantt-chart world for every question, it predates this outline and will leave you short in more than half the exam.
Should I take CAPM or go straight to PMP?
CAPM is PMI’s entry-level credential and sits below the PMP. It is aimed at people already contributing to project teams, moving into project roles, or looking for a stackable credential that shows fluency across predictive, agile, and business-analysis-influenced work. PMP is the credential for people who already lead projects and can evidence it — its eligibility bar is materially higher than CAPM’s education-only route. If you cannot yet meet PMP’s requirements, CAPM is the sensible entry point rather than a consolation prize; PMI treats it as a step on the same track.
How is this free sample different from the full Certifym bank?
The sample is a fixed 15-question set spread across the four domains at blueprint proportions, with no account needed. The full 900-question bank runs as 100-question sets, each drawn to the same official weights as the real exam — Domain 1 dominant at 36%, Domain 2 short but math-heavy, Domain 3 testing why-you-choose-adaptive judgment as much as ceremony trivia, and Domain 4 catching candidates who under-prepared for the business analysis lens — with a 65% pass mark as an honest raw-score proxy for PMI’s undisclosed threshold. None of the paid-bank items appear in this sample.
