How many questions are on the actual CISM exam?
150 multiple-choice questions in a four-hour (240-minute) window, delivered at PSI test centers or remote proctored. Confirm current logistics on isaca.org when you book — ISACA sets the format and may change it.
What score do I need to pass CISM?
ISACA scores CISM on a scaled 200–800 range with 450 required to pass. That conversion is deliberately non-linear, so no fixed percentage maps exactly to it. The Certifym practice pass mark is set at 65% as an honest raw-score equivalent of where 450 tends to land. Because every set is stratified to the official weights, clearing it means you performed across all four domains rather than getting lucky in the heavy ones.
What changes on November 3, 2026?
ISACA has announced an updated CISM Exam Content Outline effective that date. Exams sat before it test the current four-domain outline, in force since June 2022; exams on or after it test the revised one. If you are mid-preparation against the current outline, factor in ISACA’s 30-day retake wait when deciding whether to sit before the cutover or restudy afterwards.
Which domains carry the most weight?
Domain 3 (Information Security Program) at 33% and Domain 4 (Incident Management) at 30% — together 63% of your scored questions. Governance and Risk Management, despite being what people associate with CISM, account for only 37% between them. Study time that follows intuition rather than the weights tends to land in the wrong place.
Do I need five years of experience before sitting the exam?
No — you can sit at any time. The experience requirement applies to certification rather than testing: five years of information security work experience, with waivers available for up to two of those years. Many candidates pass first and complete the experience afterwards.
Should I take CISA or CISM first?
It depends which chair you sit in. CISA rewards an auditor’s mindset — evidence, independence, defensible conclusions. CISM rewards a manager’s — business risk, programme design, decision ownership. If you already run a security function, CISM will read closer to your day job. If you are in assurance or audit, CISA is the more natural entry point. The two pair well and share a good deal of governance vocabulary.
How is this free sample different from the full Certifym bank?
The sample is a fixed 15-question set spread across the four domains at blueprint proportions.
