What score do I need to pass PgMP?
PMI does not publish a numeric cut score for PgMP, and because only 150 of the 170 items are scored there is no raw percentage on the screen that maps cleanly to a pass line either. That leaves nothing concrete to train against, so Certifym sets the practice pass mark at 65% — an honest raw-score equivalent for what industry consensus suggests PMI’s psychometric bar amounts to on this exam. Which domains should I spend the most time on?
Program Life Cycle Management is the answer to that question almost on its own: at 44% it is nearly half the exam, and it spans definition, delivery and closure — chartering, the program roadmap and WBS, governance deployment, resource optimisation across constituent projects, change management, variance investigation, and transition to operations. Stakeholder Engagement (16%), Strategic Program Alignment (15%) and Governance (14%) sit in a tight band behind it. Benefits Management is nominally the lightest at 11%, but do not study it like an afterthought: benefits are what separate a program from a portfolio of projects, and the reasoning it teaches — benefits register, sustainment beyond closure, transition to operations — is what makes the program-level answer obvious in the other four domains.
What do I have to clear before I can sit the exam?
PgMP is a three-stage process, and the exam is the last of the three. You submit an application containing detailed program experience summaries; that application then goes to a panel review, where PgMP-certified assessors evaluate what you have described. The panel filters out most applicants who describe project management rather than program management — PMI takes the distinction seriously, and the eligibility bar for this credential is heavy by design. How is PgMP different from PMP?
PgMP sits above PMP in seniority and is scoped differently rather than simply being harder. A program is a coordinated set of related projects, subsidiary programs and program activities managed together to deliver benefits that could not be realised by managing them independently, and PgMP validates strategic decision-making at that scale — where deliverables matter less than the outcomes and benefits the program produces. It attracts program directors, PMO leaders and senior program managers whose success is measured by whether the organisation got the outcomes the program was chartered to deliver, not by whether individual projects finished on time.
